Detective Megan Wheeler, MCS
Megan grew up in New York City, in many different homes. She was brought up by her mother after her father took off, she was 10. After he didn't come home one day, her mother assumed he'd left them, and Megan grew up thinking that. She only recently found out that he was involved in mob relations and in fact may be in hiding or dead. She doesn't have any new leads on him. She has an older sister, Karen, who is 6 years older. Karen is married and has a 13 year old son. Karen is usually seen as the wonder child who has always done everything right. Karen married a successful man and is a stay at home mom in a quiet suburban neighborhood in New Jersey. Megan's mother doesn't have siblings, but her father has a brother Pete. Until the new findings of her father, she hadn't seen her Uncle Pete in nearly 20 years. She is very close to her mother, but at the same time they drive each other crazy. Her mom hates that she's a cop and has near perfected the guilt trip. Her mom also constantly moves around in hopes of finding 'more' and always has new ideas for a business.
When Megan graduated high school, she didn't have many expectations in affording college. She eventually found her way through the Police Academy, and took a handful of classes as needed. She was shuffled between precincts and boroughs for several years until she made Detective. Not long after that, she was put on a task force that took her overseas quite a bit. The task force is where she met Captain Danny Ross, who became a mentor and friend. She learned a lot from him, and he continued being a friend even when their case wrapped up. She got thrown around a couple more times, then found herself in narcotics, when Captain Ross got on at the Major Case Squad and asked her to transfer in. For a cop her age, she made it up the ranks quickly and she is proud of it. She never wishes she had gone to college and taken a different path. She loves her job and can't imagine anything else.
Megan has not been one for successful relationships with men. There's only two men in her life that she's ever completely trusted, one being Captain Danny Ross. The other was her now ex, Kevin. He was the most serious relationship she has had, and it ended badly, making her trust issues deepen. She now prefers to date here and there, nothing serious. She doesn't tend to expect much from the male population, and doesn't usually trust them easy.
She has great insight to people and the way they do what they do, and why they feel how they feel. She's young, but it doesn't stop her. She is very by the book, which she gets ridiculed for, but it's her way of keeping control. She doesn't ever want to loose her job, or loose the grips that she has on life, so she makes herself a rule follower.
She gets picked on mercilessly for her freckles. She doesn't hate them...all the time. What bothers her the most about her freckles, is growing up her whole life knowing that it was all her father left her.
She currently lives in a small one bedroom apartment with her best friend, Pup, a 5 year old 80lb chocolate lab mix. He is the love of her life and she is slightly obsessed with him. Technically she's not supposed to have pets in her building, but the landlord likes having a cop on site, so he makes an exception. Plus, he thinks her freckles are cute.
